Thanks for checking out my blog!  This is a place for me to share my art, creative thoughts, and anything else by me, Rachel Anne.

About Me & My Creations:

I’ve always been creative, stick any craft you can think of in front of me and I’ll be occupied for hours.  I’ve taken classes in studio art, drawing, painting (water colors), mixed media, viking wire knitting, sculpture, print-making, bookmaking, darkroom and digital photography, a little pottery, and enameling.  I’ve never had a class in sewing or quilting, but after making many, many bags, I made the transition to quilting in my late teens.  While very precise and exact in life, the thought of measuring out every piece of a pattern drove me crazy for years, so as you’ll see in my work, I mostly create my own designs, rarely following formal patterns.  That said, I’ve found one of my passions to be patchwork, a medium where I can combine my color sense, love for history in traditional patterns, and piecework all in one project.  While seemingly contradictory, I also love art quilts, which give me the opportunity to push the boundaries of what can be created using fabric.  Other crafts of mine include tile mosaics, scrapbooking, card-making, knitting, crocheting, and felting.

Born and raised in the suburbs of New York City, I received my BA in history from Vassar College.  A few years later, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee to earn my M.Ed. in Visual Disabilities / Special Education at Vanderbilt University.  I am now living and working in the Virginia suburbs of Washington D.C. where I am a teacher of students with visual impairments during the school year, and spend my summers creating and crafting as much as I can, with the “help” of my cat, Lena.
